Norma stanoví české a slovenské názvy a definice (v některých případech jen odkazem na jiné normy) jednotlivých druhů motorů s vnitřním spalováním a vratným pohybem pístu, určených pro silniční vozidla pro motorovou dopravu. Pro informaci jsou uvedeny i názvy ruské, anglické, německé a francouzské. Norma obsahuje 155 hesel a u některých z nich české definice. ČSN 30 0027 byla schválena 23.11.1979 a nabyla účinnosti od 1.1.1981. Nahradila ČSN 30 0027 z 20.12.1967
