Tato terminologická norma obsahuje všeobecné termíny a definice pro měření a elektrické měření (například metody měření, etalony, ovlivňující činitele, provozní podmínky) a termíny týkající se jednotlivých typů měřicích přístrojů a jejich částí respektive příslušenství (včetně fyzikálních a elektrických charakteristik apod.). Definice termínů vycházejí především z provozního přístupu týkajícího se nejistoty měření a signálů, na rozdíl od dřívějších přístupů týkajících se "pravé hodnoty". Norma je obsahuje ucelenou terminologii pro oblast měření a měřicích přístrojů.
