Annotation

The International Union of Railways (UIC) develops and distributes International Railway Solutions (IRS) in order to help railway stakeholders, achieve further harmonisation and collaboration.
This IRS specifies the technical requirements applicable to interconnecting gangways and the inspection rules for interconnecting gangways of locomotives and passenger vehicles.
It also defines:
- the safe use of the gangway system by passengers and/or staff while the train is running.
- the assessment methods, and pass/fail criteria for gangways installed on vehicles.
It is addressed to Railway Undertakings, Manufacturers and Entities in charge of the maintenance of railway vehicles.
It integrates in full or in part the following UIC leaflets:

- EN 16286-1, EN 16286-2
