This document has been reviewed under the Systematic Review process in 2023 and does not require any textual or technical changes (21 October 2022).

This IRS concerns conveyance of wagons on board ferries on routes shown in the list in Appendix A.
It does not cover conveyance of wagons on ferries between Great Britain and mainland Europe, the conditions governing such wagons being laid down in UIC Leaflet 503.
It does not cover the carriage of wagons in ferries between standard-gauge networks and Finland, since the conditions to be met by such wagons are set out in UIC Leaflet 430-3.
The conditions in the leaflet are applicable to 3-axle wagons and two or three-axle bogie wagons.
2-axle wagons are in fact accepted on ferries worked on the routes given in Appendix A, without having to fulfil any particular conditions.
For wagons of types other than those mentioned in the two preceding paragraphs, the Railway Undertakings or Wagon Keeper concerned shall reach prior agreement over their conveyance by ferry.
